Mark your calendar for the 2015 Wisconsin Science Festival, Oct. 22-25 at the Discovery Building and at locations across the campus and state. From La Crosse to Milwaukee, Bayfield to Platteville, this year's festival features more than 200 events at more than 30 communities throughout Wisconsin.
Nelson Institute highlights at the event include:
- Nelson Institute faculty members Annemarie Schneider and Samer Alatout will join an exciting group of university faculty in Global Wisconsin Idea “flash talks.” This event, held Thursday, Oct. 22, at 2:30 p.m. and moderated by Nelson affiliate Richard Keller, associate dean of the International Division, convenes scientists working on some of the world's most pressing problems. More than a half dozen scientists will share their groundbreaking work in five-minute flash talks.
- Gregg Mitman, Vilas Research and William Coleman Professor of History of Science, Medical History and Environmental Studies, will participate in the panel discussion “Ebola in Context,” on Saturday, Oct. 24, 3:00-4:45 p.m. Mitman joins a wide-ranging group of world-renowned experts as they revisit the Ebola crisis and discuss future global health emergencies.
- Associate Professor Galen McKinley of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the Nelson Institute Center for Climatic Research will participate in the “Keeping the Great Lakes Great,” a panel discussion featuring experts on climate, water quality and invasive species, on Sunday, Oct. 25, 11:00 a.m. – noon.
All of these events will take place in the DeLuca Forum in the Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard Street.
