Community Environmental Scholarship
The Community Environmental Scholars Program (CESP) is supported by two different scholarships with slightly different eligibility criteria. Please read the following carefully to be sure you are eligible.
Eligibility Criteria for the National Science Foundation funded CESP Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (CESP S-STEM):
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Enrolled in a STEM major
- Enrolled in the Environmental Studies Major or Certificate OR
- Declared in the Environmental Science Major
- Filed a FAFSA for the current Academic Year
- Have financial need
- Have a GPA of at least 2.85
- At least Sophomore standing to apply and Junior or Senior standing to receive the CESP S-STEM
- Diversity (of perspectives, culture, ethnicity, economics, and background) is very important to CESP. Please also let us know if you identify with one or more of the following categories:
- Heritage from an underrepresented population (see form for details) OR
- First generation college attendee OR
- Disability/Differently abled OR
- Non-traditional student OR
- Veteran
Eligibility Criteria for Wisconsin CESP Scholarship:
- Wisconsin Resident
- Enrolled in the Environmental Studies Major or Certificate
- Filed a FAFSA for the current Academic Year
- Have financial need
- Sophomore standing preferred to apply and Junior or Senior standing preferred to receive the Wisconsin CESP Scholarship
- Diversity (of perspectives, culture, ethnicity, economics, and background) is very important to CESP. Please also let us know if you identify with one or more of the following categories:
- Heritage from an underrepresented population (see form for details) OR
- First generation college attendee OR
- Disability/Differently abled OR
- Non-traditional student OR
- Veteran
Requirements of Award Recipients:
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress towards the Environmental Studies program and your degree (a target GPA of 2.75)
- Enroll in a one-credit Nelson Institute Community Environmental Scholars seminar (Environmental Studies 402) for at least 3 semesters that you are in the program.
- Participate in cohort building experiences and leadership development exercises throughout the year.
- Meet with the Nelson Institute's Undergraduate Programs Coordinator and your CESP-assigned advisor at least twice a semester to discuss your progress in your degrees and/or certificate.
