Imagine Green Madison was a three-day community gathering - the first step in a long-term action agenda to create and implement new networks, partnerships and activities to promote sustainability and a healthier urban environment in and around Madison, the fastest-growing city in Wisconsin.
Organized by UW-Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, Imagine Green Madison gathered leaders from all segments of the community – businesses, local government, academia, and non-profit organizations representing the city’s diverse population and interests – to identify opportunities for a comprehensive, integrated sustainability initiative. These efforts are not meant to reinvent the wheel – many wheels are already in motion in government, business, at local colleges and universities, and in the non-profit sector. Rather, our goal was to help create new linkages between people, organizations, companies and projects, and introduce sustainability concepts to new segments of our community.
Imagine Green Madison will be based on the Future Search process, a proven and highly successful method of building consensus and solving complex problems.
Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz is scheduled to join our gathering for welcoming remarks on its opening day, February 15, 2007.
