Improving seed system functioning to provide quality seed of better performing varieties to millions of African smallholder farmers is a challenge that must be met. But how? Our speakers examined this question for the staple cereals in Mali and Kenya. An actor-oriented approach, with qualitative assessments of experiences and visions of diverse actors, was used to identify entry points for strengthening these systems. These findings point to actions and processes by which the various actors can improve seed system functioning in a sustainable manner.
