Natural Resources and Sustainable Practices Specialist, City of Dubuque

The City of Dubuque, Iowa (population 58,000) invites applications for the position of Natural Resources and Sustainable Practices Specialist.

This position requires a dynamic, environmentally oriented leader that will be responsible for performing and supervising a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the development, operation, maintenance and preservation of city natural areas and parks, undeveloped park land, waterways, wetlands and various other city properties as well as leading the Department’s sustainability efforts. The successful candidate will possess considerable experience in natural resources management, including responsibility for managing public natural areas and some experience in an urban landscape environment and sustainable practices; graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Landscape Architecture, Conservation Management, Outdoor Education, Forestry, Botany or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the essential knowledge, skills and abilities. The successful candidate will also possess a demonstrated ability to follow a management philosophy that is input oriented and values problem solving and the development of partnerships and a desire to be part of an organization that values service, people, integrity, responsibility, innovation and teamwork.

The City offers an hourly salary range of $21.92 to $24.92, effective July 1, 2012, and an attractive benefit package. The Civil Service Commission will be conducting a written entrance examination for this position on May 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. in the Ballroom in the Five Flags Civic Center. The Five Flags Civic Center is located at 4th and Locust Streets in Dubuque.
