Environmental Affairs, Green Mountain Energy

Position Summary: This position is responsible for maintaining the environmental integrity of all Green Mountain products, fostering a culture of sustainability inside the company through the management of internal environmental programs, and managing relationships with environmental groups and industry associations. This position is vital to Green Mountain’s environmental mission, and candidates should have a passion for using our business model to make a difference for the environment.

Position Responsibilities:
Create and review all environmental marketing claims, calculating CO2 avoided by renewable energy products and associated equivalents, making CO2 avoided more tangible to our customers.
Manage the annual Green-e Energy verification process and voluntary audit of all renewable energy certificate (REC) and carbon offset sales, working closely with a third party accounting firm.
Work with Green Mountain’s Risk and Supply departments to maintain accurate records of all REC purchases and allocations, completing annual REC and carbon offset retirements to meet product content claims.
Calculate Green Mountain’s corporate carbon footprint and manage the verification of the footprint with a third party consultant, meeting our annual goal of 100% carbon neutrality.
Publish Green Mountain’s sustainability report according to GRI guidelines and work with Green Mountain’s Marketing department to improve and update content on the new sustainability report microsite.
Represent Green Mountain in environmental industry associations and establish and maintain relationships with environmental organizations.
Lead the Green Ambassadors (Green Mountain’s internal “green team”) and manage internal programs to help employees reduce their environmental impact.
Assist with regulatory filings related to environmental claims about our green power products in Texas, New York, New Jersey, and future markets.
Complete environmental due diligence on renewable energy and carbon offset facilities during the contracting process.
Work with the Sustainability Team at NRG, our parent company, on sustainability reporting via Carbon Disclosure Project, Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and other projects as needed.
Research and deliver recommendations to senior management on environmental topics as needed.
Develop Green Mountain environmental strategy and policy positions.


Required Skills and Experience:
Project management, leading teams as well as personally delivering finished product
Renewable energy markets and related green technology
Corporate sustainability and environmental policy
Strong quantitative, analytical and communication skills
Quick learner, able to work cross-functionally and independently at all times
Excel at explaining technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders
Passion for working at the intersection of business and the environment
