Farmer's Assistance Program

We are located in the Prairie Oak State Office Building situated on City’s southeast side and nestled in a beautifully wooded and scenic hilltop venue. Our employees enjoy ample, low-cost parking at the facility. We are only minutes away from the Beltline Highway, Interstate 90 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.

Job Duties:
This position is responsible for the coordination, management, and day to day administration of the Farmers' Assistance Program.

Provide direct services to farmers who need business and/or financial counseling and analysis in order to make decisions about their farm businesses; assessment of farmer contacts and assigning cases to other staff or volunteer advisors; analysis of financial data and counseling farmers on their options.

Responsible for creating and implementing education and outreach activities relating to business and financial planning for farmers (e.g., present seminars on financial analysis and farm financial literacy, etc.).

Special Notes:

Occasional travel is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid driver's license, or the ability to provide one's own transportation for work purposes.
Extraordinary communication skills are required. A strong level of computer literacy, and ability to learn and utilize farm financial management software such as FINPACK.
A background check will be conducted for the selected applicant, prior to an employment offer.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Extensive ability to work with wide variety of individuals ranging from farmers to agency heads.

Some knowledge is required in the areas of debtor and creditor contracts, farm foreclosure and bankruptcy procedures and laws, landlord/tenant law, and tax laws related to debt management.

Considerable practical knowledge of farming practices. A strong working knowledge of dairy farming, grazing, and alternative agricultural systems such as organic farming, is desirable.

Experience working with farmers under financial and emotional stress.

Experience helping farmers evaluate options and make farm management decisions.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
