Tenure Track Faculty, Horticulture/Sustainable Landscape - Illinois Central Collect

Illinois Central College is seeking a qualified individual to provide lecture and laboratory instruction for the existing horticulture program, develop new courses related to sustainable landscaping and serve on a team designing a Sustainability Center.

Instructional responsibilities may include subjects in Plant Materials including Identification and Uses; Turf Management classes including Lawn Care and Golf Course Management; Plant Diseases and Insects and their control; Landscape Construction; Irrigation Systems; plant propagation; Landscape Layout and design; Horticulture Business Management; Arboriculture including tree climbing techniques and pruning; and Horticulture Mechanics. Professional activities include: serve on the design team for the Sustainability Center; repair the Irrigation system at the Land laboratory when needed; curator of the ICC Arboretum including plant acquisition, planting and maintenance; maintenance of the Container Plant Nursery; Landscape and Garden Day coordinator and planning; lead student participation PLANET Career Days Event; work with industry to keep up with current trends; develop internship plans and evaluation of internship; provide student; provide input to technician on maintenance tasks and scheduling; order equipment and supplies needed to accomplish arboretum tasks and laboratory activities; and assist technician with weekend watering.

Education and/or Experience:
Necessary Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture with a landscape design emphasis or an equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered. The successful candidate will have some experience teaching or training; demonstrate a minimum of two years experience in a horticulture area; must be able to teach students by explaining, demonstrating, and overseeing their exercises and by giving them advice on the immediate topic; must be able to coordinate, organize, and plan student projects; must be able to work collaboratively with other full-time faculty members to coordinate and mentor part-time instructors and must be able to represent programs to local employers and companies seeking ICC graduates or employee training. The physical level of function is Medium, which is defined as lifting 60 pounds max occasionally, and lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 30 pounds max frequently. Final candidates must successfully complete a physical determining that they meet the physical requirements of the job.

Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Horticulture; 5 years of experience in a related field; 2-5 years teaching or training experience; obtained certifications recognized in the field and sustainable landscape design experience and credentials.
